How long does it take to take the temperature in the armpit

In general, axillary temperature measurement takes 5-10 minutes and should not be too short or too long to avoid inaccurate measurement. There are various ways to measure body temperature, including oral temperature, axillary temperature and anal temperature, and different measurement methods require different measurement times. Oral and anal temperatures are closest to the patient’s internal temperature, but axillary measurements are usually used in clinical practice. The patient should be at room temperature before the measurement. Measurement in a too cold or too hot environment will result in high or low temperature measurement. The patient should keep the axilla dry during the measurement, hold the mercury tip of the thermometer in the axilla for 5-10 minutes and then remove it, and avoid touching the mercury tip with the hand when reading the thermometer. It should be noted that temperature measurement needs to be repeated several times to improve the accuracy of the measurement and to clarify the changes in the patient’s body temperature. In addition, the normal axillary body temperature is 36.5℃-37.3℃, and more than 37.3℃ should be considered as fever.
