Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease of unknown etiology that occurs specifically in the rectum and colon. It is also known as idiopathic colorectitis and chronic nonspecific ulcerative colitis, and the lesions mainly invade the mucosal and submucosal layers, often forming erosions and ulcers. It is equivalent to “diarrhea”, “dysentery”, “blood in stool” and “abdominal pain” in Chinese medicine, with no significant difference in incidence between men and women. There is no significant difference in incidence between men and women. According to Chinese medicine, this disease is mostly caused by external evil and internalized in the large intestine; or damage to the spleen and stomach, resulting in dampness and heat; or injury to the spleen due to diet, resulting in internal dampness and heat; or emotional disorders, damaging the liver and spleen, resulting in disharmony between the liver and spleen and stagnation of blood and Qi. The disease is always characterized by deficiency and stagnation of Qi. Generally, the initial stage is dominated by evil, mostly damp-heat stagnation in the large intestine and liver depression and Qi stagnation. If the disease is prolonged, resulting in injury to the spleen and stomach, spleen qi sinking, kidney deficiency, then in the process of transformation of the evidence appears spleen deficiency dampness trapped, spleen and kidney Yang deficiency of deficiency evidence. The symptoms: rapid onset, abdominal pain, refusal to press, diarrhea with urgency, mucus and blood, burning in the anus; tasteless diet, fullness and stuffiness in the epigastrium, dullness and heaviness, fever, short and red urine; red tongue, yellow and greasy coating, slippery pulse. Treatment: Clearing heat and drying dampness, cooling blood and inducing stagnation. Remedy: Baitou Weng Tang with flavour. According to the theory of “Promoting blood circulation will heal pus in stool; regulating qi will remove posterior weight”, Paeonia lactiflora Tang with addition and subtraction can also be used, in which Scutellaria baicalensis and Huang Lian clear heat and detoxify dampness; Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora and Glycyrrhiza glabra promote blood circulation and harmonize Ying, slow down the pain; Mu Xiang and Betel nut promote qi and guide stagnation. Blood in stool can be added with fried tsubaki bark and acacia flowers. 2, liver and spleen disharmony symptoms: longer duration, diarrhea mostly occurs after emotional stress or excitement, abdominal pain is diarrhea, pain decreases after diarrhea; accompanied by chest and hypochondriacal distension, dullness in the epigastrium. Dark tongue, thin white fur, thin string pulse. Treatment: Suppressing the liver and supporting the spleen. Remedy: Adding flavor to the formula for painful diarrhea. 3.Spleen deficiency and dampness symptoms: common in patients with repeated attacks. Symptoms include intestinal tinnitus and diarrhea, undigested food in the stool, abdominal pain and pressure; dullness and chest tightness, fatigue and weakness, insomnia and dreaminess; pale tongue, white fur, moist and slow or sunken pulse. Treatment: Benefit Qi and strengthen the spleen, dispel dampness and stop diarrhea. Remedy: Ginseng Ling Bai Zhu San plus or minus. If residual heat is not cleared, add Huang Lian or Hu Lian. If the stool is heavy with pus and blood, add Phellodendron, Qin Pi, Phellodendron, and Blood Yu Char. Also can be used pure Yang real nourishing organs soup. 4, spleen and kidney Yang deficiency: symptoms: prolonged illness, recurrent attacks, emaciation, dysentery, diarrhea, diarrhea in the morning, diarrhea, diarrhea is peaceful after diarrhea; little food and weakness, cold body and limbs, waist and knees are sore and weak, face is white; tongue is pale, no moss, pulse is sunken and weak, ulnar pulse is weak. Treatment: Warming the spleen and kidney, consolidating astringency and stopping diarrhea. Remedies: Si Shen Wan with flavor. Can also be used: Danggui Sihui Tang, Si Shen Wan combined with Si Jun Zi Tang.
