What are the causes of excessive night-time urination?

Nocturnal enuresis can be caused by prostate disease and urinary tract disorders. The causes of excessive nocturia in male patients are very different from those in female patients. In men, nocturia is more likely to be caused by prostate disease; in women, nocturia is more likely to be caused by a urinary tract infection.
The prostate is a unique organ in men and is located around the posterior urethra. When the prostate increases in size, it compresses the urethra and at the same time stimulates the bladder, causing a strong urge to urinate. This stimulation is less affected by the physiological cycle and therefore the patient may experience excessive urination at night. Women’s physiology is somewhat different from men’s, their urethra is shorter and the surrounding environment is more complex, coupled with physiological periods, vaginal secretions and other factors, urinary tract infections are more likely to occur, causing patients to experience symptoms such as frequent urination, urinary urgency and urinary incontinence, and getting up at night with excessive urination is also a common manifestation.
