There are individual differences in the time it takes for blood glucose to return to normal in pre-diabetic patients, with recovery occurring more quickly in milder cases and possibly a little later in more severe cases. Prediabetes includes impaired fasting glucose, impaired glucose tolerance, or both. Patients with prediabetes should be given lifestyle interventions (e.g., medical nutrition therapy, exercise therapy, etc.) to reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Pharmacologic interventions may be considered when intensive lifestyle interventions are not effective in pre-diabetic patients. It is recommended that pre-diabetic patients should be given dietary control and exercise to reduce the risk of developing diabetes, and be followed up regularly with regular blood glucose checks and active cooperation with their physicians.
