How can cervical spondylosis be treated conservatively?

Cervical spondylosis can be treated conservatively as long as there is no severe manifestation of spinal cord compression. Specific methods include internal and external medicine, physical therapy, Chinese orthopedic manipulation, acupuncture, traction, etc., and acupuncture treatment can be considered when necessary. Internal medicine is mainly Chinese herbal medicine or tonics to invigorate blood circulation and dispel wind-dampness; western medicine is mainly non-steroidal antipyretic and analgesic; external Chinese medicine includes ointment, wet and hot compresses (the same principle as internal Chinese medicine), etc. Physiotherapy is preferable to various kinds of heat therapy. Chinese bone and acupuncture should be treated in hospital. Traction can be tried first, if comfortable can continue, if the symptoms worsen or uncomfortable should be discontinued. Generally the symptoms should improve or disappear after 1~3 weeks of treatment.
