For mothers-to-be, childbirth is both an expectation and a fear. Should you choose vaginal delivery or cesarean delivery?
If you are a physically and mentally healthy mother, your age is appropriate, your pelvis is normal, there are no medical or surgical complications, your fetal position is normal, your size is appropriate and your fetal heartbeat is not abnormal, you should choose vaginal delivery. Vaginal delivery is a natural physiological process, usually without anesthesia, less trauma, less bleeding; you can eat after delivery, breast milk is produced quickly and recovery is good; you can breastfeed in a few minutes, which can improve the communication and cooperation between mother and child, and enjoy the feeling of being a mother as soon as possible; you can get out of bed and walk in two hours, which is conducive to uterine regeneration and elimination of malignant dew; there is no incision in the uterus, which does not affect the next pregnancy. The fetus is squeezed through the birth canal, so that the amniotic fluid and mucus in the respiratory and digestive tracts can be squeezed out, which is conducive to the establishment of independent breathing after birth, reducing the rate of neonatal wet lung and aspiration pneumonia. The regular contraction of the uterus during labor can make the fetal lungs get exercise and alveoli expand, which reduces the chance of pulmonary hyaline membrane disease. In short, there are many benefits of vaginal delivery. Cesarean delivery is an effective means of solving obstructed labor, the most important feature of which is that it is quick and rapid. It does not have the above-mentioned benefits for both mother and fetus, and it is associated with risks of anesthesia and surgery, increased maternal bleeding and neonatal respiratory distress syndrome, postoperative activity limitation, abnormal gastrointestinal function, increased venous thrombosis in the lower pelvis, and possible long-term complications such as uterine scar pregnancy. Therefore, cesarean delivery is not the ideal method of delivery, but only an effective means to solve difficult deliveries and certain obstetric syndromes and to save the lives of pregnant women and perinatal children. It is recommended to insist on vaginal delivery when conditions allow, and not to choose cesarean delivery blindly without clear medical indications. Of course, if you do not have the conditions for vaginal delivery and try to give birth forcibly, it will definitely lead to difficult delivery, and in serious cases, it will endanger the life of mother and child. Please do your best to have a vaginal delivery if you have the conditions for vaginal delivery, and have a cesarean delivery when indicated.
