Is myopia hereditary?

If the parents have high myopia, the probability of inheriting it to the next generation is high, but it is not necessarily inherited. It is best to go to a regular eye hospital for a detailed examination after the child is born. In recent years, many scholars have studied the relationship between genetics and myopia, proving that if both parents are highly myopic, there is a high probability that their offspring will be highly myopic. If one parent is highly myopic and the other has normal vision, the offspring have a 57.5% chance of having high myopia. If both parents are not highly myopic, their offspring have a 22.2% chance of having high myopia. This shows that there is a strong genetic link between high myopia and heredity. If both parents are highly myopic, it is recommended that the child be examined as soon as possible after birth, and if myopia is diagnosed, attention should be paid to the infant’s eye care. Pay attention to the scientific use of eyes in life to prevent myopia from deepening again.
