Sleeping posture of cervical spondylosis patients

Cervical spondylosis rest is contraindicated because nearly one-third of each person’s time is spent in sleep. Improper sleep posture, not only the neck does not get rest and relaxation, but will aggravate the cervical spondylosis condition. This requires the appropriate height of the pillow soft and hard, sleep position appropriate, the bed appropriate. The pillow is an important tool to maintain the normal position of the head and neck. The head and neck should be maintained in a natural posterior extension position, do not “high pillow”. The pillow is too high, the head and neck excessive forward flexion, the cervical spine posterior muscles and ligaments are prone to strain, when the posterior wall of the dural sac in the vertebral canal is stretched tightly, and to the front of the cervical spinal cord when the pressure is formed; pillow is too low head and neck excessive backward, resulting in an increase in the anterior convexity curvature, not only the muscles in front of the vertebral body and the anterior longitudinal ligaments are prone to fatigue due to excessive tension, while the posterior ligaments of the vertebral canal can also protrude forward into the vertebral canal. In addition, the neck is overextended, the vertebral canal is shortened so that the volume of the vertebral canal becomes smaller, aggravating cervical spondylosis. Therefore, the pillow height to 10 cm, width to 20 ~ 40 cm is appropriate, the shape to the middle of low, high at both ends, and should be pillowed on the pillow. The ideal sleep position should be to make the entire spine in natural curvature, hip and knee joints are flexed, so that the whole body muscle relaxation. Beds with a hard bed and padded with breathable soft cushions is more reasonable.
