Follicular and sebaceous mites, commonly referred to as mites, are the two types of helminths found on humans today. Follicle mites reside in the eyelash follicles, while sebaceous mites reside in the eyelash sebaceous glands and the lid glands. Follicle mites tend to live in groups, whereas sebaceous mites are found mainly in the ducts of the sebaceous glands, usually singly and mostly free between hair follicles. Etiology: In most cases, the mite and the host are in a symbiotic state. It is believed that certain factors such as fatigue, stress, and irritating food can cause dysbiosis and lead to disease. Symptoms: The most common symptoms are itchy eyes, foreign body sensation, dry eyes, red eyes, increased eye discharge, eyelash loss, and ingrown eyelashes. Sometimes a small number of parasitic mites may have very obvious symptoms. Diagnosis: Patients with recurrent episodes of itchy eyes, foreign body sensation, dry eyes, red eyes, increased eye discharge, eyelash shedding, inverted eyelashes, increased eyelash scaling, and abnormal lid gland function are considered to have crepuscular mite blepharitis if they have a positive eyelash crepuscular mite microscopy. Treatment: 1. Medication: Crepitant mite blepharitis is easily recurrent and more difficult to control. Because of the special location of the lid margin, irritating creams are not suitable. It is recommended that the lid margin be massaged with an appropriately concentrated tea tree oil ointment. To use the ointment, wash your hands with warm water, wash your eyelids with a tear-free baby shampoo with your eyes closed, unscrew the cap of the bottle, squeeze out or use a sterilized cotton swab to remove a mung bean-sized amount of tea tree oil ointment, place it on your middle or index finger, close your eyes, and massage the lid margin from the inside to the outside of your fingertips for about 5 minutes each time, 1-2 times a day. Caution: Be gentle and moderate. If you experience eye redness, irritation, tearing, pain or any discomfort after using the cream, please stop using it immediately and wash it with saline immediately. Store the eye ointment in a cool place after use. 2. General treatment and daily protection: Eat more fruits and vegetables to increase the vitamin content in your body and keep your bowels open. Try to reduce the consumption of alcohol, spicy and sour stimulating and greasy diet. Pay attention to the hygiene of living environment, change pillow towels, bed sheets and covers frequently, do not share towels with others, pay attention to open windows and ventilation, etc.
