“Choking is a common symptom in infants and young children, choking after breastfeeding is usually due to incorrect breastfeeding posture of the mother.
The correct breastfeeding position is: the baby’s body is turned towards the mother and held close to her body, the mother holds the baby diagonally, the newborn’s head and shoulders are resting on the bend of the elbow on the breastfeeding side, the other hand is in a “C” shape holding the mother’s breast, the newborn holds all the nipples and most of the areola and can breathe through the nose at the same time.
After feeding, the mother should hold the baby upright on her shoulders and gently pat the baby’s back. When the baby burps, the air is removed from the baby’s body.
After ruling out various behavioural factors that may cause choking during feeding, choking is still present and is suspected to be due to the infant’s respiratory or digestive tract disorders.”
