How to protect the cornea

A beautiful cousin, Xiao Bo, who is in her first year of college and suffers from myopia of 500 degrees, was introduced by her classmates to a pair of monthly disposable contact lenses 2 weeks ago. After slit lamp microscopy and corneal staining, it was found that Xiaobai had 2 grayish-white corneal ulcer foci in each eye, and Xiaobai was suffering from “bacterial corneal ulcer” in both eyes. Myopia is a modern civilization disease in today’s society, more and more boys and girls are wearing contact lenses to look pretty, but these teenagers may not know that incorrectly wearing contact lenses, and some incorrect habits can harm the eyes. In our ophthalmology clinic, almost every day there are 5-6 friends who have corneal infections due to improper contact lens wear, which not only affects their work and study but also causes vision damage. If the eye is the window to the soul, then the cornea is the glass on the window. A normal cornea is as clear as crystal, also known as the “black eye”, and although it is only half a millimeter thick, it not only makes up the outer wall of the eye, but also has a powerful focusing function to focus light on the retina. If we compare the eye to a camera, the cornea is the lens of the camera, and the eyelids and tears are the devices that protect the “lens”. The eyelids blink without our knowledge, and with each blink, tears cover the surface of the cornea with a thin film of tears to protect the “lens” and keep the eye comfortable. Since the cornea is a transparent lens, it has no blood vessels but is rich in nerves. Therefore, the cornea gets its nutrients from tears, and if the tears do not contain enough nutrients, the cornea becomes dry and less transparent. In addition, the cornea is the most sensitive part of the body, especially to touch and pain. The cornea is often exposed to the air and has a lot of exposure to germs. The cornea is like a wall protecting the eye, and the epithelial layer of the cornea has a defense function to prevent bacteria and microorganisms from invading the eye. Once the corneal epithelium is damaged, it is like a hole being cut in the wall, resulting in redness, photophobia, tearing, soreness and other discomfort. Especially for teenagers who wear contact lenses, it is important to strengthen the care of corneal health. With the rapid economic development of today’s society, people’s lives, studies and work have undergone radical changes. The urban environment is crowded, and more and more young people and white-collar workers are suffering from dry eye disease due to frequent exposure to computers, TVs, game consoles, and cell phones. Dry eye” is a condition in which the epithelium of the cornea exhibits microscopic detachment due to the reduction of tears or excessive evaporation of tears. In the past, dry eye and cataracts, glaucoma and other disorders are mainly common eye diseases of the elderly, but now it is found that 90% of people who work more than 3 hours a day in front of a computer have eye problems, and this so-called “video terminal syndrome” is a manifestation of dry eye disease. Since the cornea absorbs most of its oxygen by dissolving atmospheric oxygen, dry eye cells cannot exchange oxygen with the atmosphere, so it is important to keep the eyes moist and it is recommended to do more blinking. Because the eyelids repeatedly clean the corneal surface during blinking, microorganisms do not stay easily, and the tear film is evenly distributed around the eye to moisten it. In addition, the use of high-quality artificial tears for proper supplementation is not a bad way to actively moisten the cornea and treat dry eyes. Taking care of the cornea and strengthening its ability to defend itself against external enemies such as microorganisms is a must-have eye care strategy. If you need to wear contact lenses, you must pay attention to health, hygiene and accurate fitting. Keratitis and corneal ulcers are common clinical corneal diseases that are extremely harmful to the eye. Therefore, it is important to prevent keratitis and corneal ulcers. How to protect the eyes from this disease? In general, the following points should be noted: 1, pay attention to eye hygiene, do not use dirty hands or dirty handkerchiefs to wipe the eyes, to prevent trachoma and pink eye. 2, eyes into the sand, never rub the eye with your hands, especially the corneal foreign body, should immediately go to the hospital to ask the ophthalmologist to remove, in order to prevent corneal abrasions and bacterial infections. After the corneal foreign body is removed, there is often damage to the corneal epithelium, should point antibiotic eye drops or coated with antibiotic eye ointment for more than 3 days. If the damage is extensive, after applying eye ointment should be covered with eye pads, and daily checkups at the hospital to prevent infection. 3, where in the cold, fever, eye irritation symptoms, such as photophobia, lacrimation, pain, can not open the eyes, etc., should go to the hospital for examination, pay attention to the presence of early keratitis changes. 4. If you have conjunctivitis, trachoma, entropion, or chronic lacrimal sacculitis, you should get early treatment. 5.When ordering eye drops, do not let the bottle touch the eyelid to prevent bacterial contamination and infection. 6, usually pay attention to exercise, strengthen the body, avoid colds and other febrile diseases. 7.When you are outdoors, it is advisable to wear sunglasses to prevent direct exposure of the eyes to ultraviolet rays. In the industrial environment, it is advisable to use protective glasses to prevent chemicals or foreign objects from entering the eyes.
