How long does it take to recover from corneal damage

After corneal damage, the recovery time depends on the severity of the damage. Mild damage can be recovered in 1-2 days, while those with a slightly larger area need about 3-4 days to recover, but if deeper tissue is damaged, it can take up to 1 week or even 1 month to recover. The recovery time varies depending on the degree of corneal damage. Usually, the cornea has a strong ability to heal itself, so if the injury is mild and does not damage the stroma, it can heal in 2-3 days. However, if deeper tissues, including the stroma or anterior elastic layer, are damaged, the recovery time may be as short as 1 week or as long as 1 month, after controlling and preventing infection and promoting recovery with corneal nutrients. In the case of secondary infection, the recovery time can be longer and can extend for several months in some patients. When corneal damage occurs, patients need to go to a specialized emergency ophthalmology clinic as soon as possible to clarify the specific situation and then treat the symptoms.
