The significance of breast reconstruction

Breast cancer is a common and frequent disease that seriously affects women’s physical and mental health and even endangers their lives. Its incidence accounts for 7-10% of all kinds of malignant tumors in China, and its incidence is increasing year by year with a trend of youth. After traditional breast tumor surgery, patients’ breasts are mutilated and their female features are lost, which causes serious psychological burden and affects their social interaction and even family life. Therefore, breast reconstruction becomes an urgent need for breast cancer patients after surgery, which fully reflects the modern bio-psycho-social medicine model and is the development and progress of tumor treatment technology. Breast reconstruction becomes part and parcel of the comprehensive recovery process of female patients after mastectomy. The timing of reconstruction is divided into: immediate postoperative reconstruction and second-stage reconstruction. The late stage of breast reconstruction includes: nipple areola reconstruction, further revision of the reconstructed breast, revision of the healthy breast, revision of the flap donor area, etc. The impact of breast reconstruction on the safety of tumor treatment: 1. It does not interfere with the normal adjuvant treatment of breast cancer. 2. Skin-preserving mastectomy does not lead to an increase in local recurrence. 3. Breast reconstruction does not conceal or prevent the examination of local recurrence. 4. Advanced breast cancer is not an absolute contraindication, and there is no increase in the incidence of local recurrence or distant metastasis.
