Diagnosis and treatment of acute pseudomembranous candidiasis

For acute pseudomembranous candidiasis (thrush or neonatal xerostomia), lips, cheeks, tongue and palate can be involved, extensive congestion on the mucous membrane, covered with small white spots or pseudomembrane, a little force can be wiped off, revealing the congested side of the child manifested as drooling and refusal to eat. Treatment: Generally, local 2% sodium bicarbonate solution can be used to clean the children’s mouth 3 times/day. For serious condition, systemic use of antifungal drugs can be considered. The medication cycle is long, even after the disappearance of symptoms, still need to adhere to the medication 7 – 14 days, to avoid recurrence; infant patients should avoid cross-infection, pay attention to maternal nipple cleaning (1: 5000 chlorohexidine solution cleaning, and then wash with water); pay attention to prohibit the use of glucocorticosteroids.
