Ulcerative colitis is often persistent, recurrent and difficult to eradicate, and is recognized worldwide as a difficult-to-treat disease, which inevitably affects the quality of work and life of patients. Western drugs for the treatment of this disease, such as salicylic acid preparations and adrenocorticosteroids, have many adverse drug reactions and require long-term maintenance treatment, which are often not easily accepted by light to medium-sized patients, who prefer to choose Chinese herbal medicine for treatment. Through clinical observation, Chinese medicine is effective for light and medium-sized patients. Our experience is that the treatment of this disease should identify both the disease and the evidence, and identify the evidence on the basis of identifying the stage of the disease. For patients in the active stage, they have diarrhea, mucus stool, shortness of breath, and unpleasant stool, the main treatment is to eliminate the evil and treat the symptoms. In the remission stage, the main treatment is to support the root of the disease. Patients with persistent disease often have a lingering condition, and even when the intestinal symptoms are obvious, they are not purely solid or purely hot, but have a combination of deficiency and reality, and a mixture of cold and heat. A more effective method is to use Chinese herbal medicine to retain the enema, so that the drug can directly reach the disease to play a direct role, which is very effective in the active stage of the lesion. The effect is more obvious when the lesion is mostly in the distal colon, so that the ulcer wound is directly exposed to the concentrated decoction of Chinese herbal medicine that clears heat and detoxifies, cools the blood and stops bleeding, dispels decay and creates muscle, which is more conducive to the regeneration of granulation tissue at the ulcer site and the repair of mucosal epithelium to promote the healing of the ulcer.
