Will medical exams test for AIDS?

Physical examinations do not check for AIDS, because AIDS is a private matter. Physical examinations only check for more routine and basic items, such as routine blood, liver function, kidney function, blood sugar, blood lipids, chest X-ray, and ultrasound. To get tested for AIDS, special HIV tests are needed, such as HIV antibodies, antigens and viral load, which require special reagents for testing. If the test is positive, a confirmatory test should be performed to determine if the person is infected with AIDS.
