Patients with particularly severe pelvic inflammatory infections may suffer from fever. This is because when a woman has a severe infection with pathogenic bacteria in the pelvis, it can lead to an increase in body temperature and a persistent fever. At the same time, there will be severe pain in the lower abdomen, as well as anal swelling and possibly lumbosacral soreness. Some women may experience nausea, dry heaving and other discomfort stimulated by the effects of pain. For women who develop a fever from pelvic inflammatory infection, hospitalization may often be required for anti-inflammatory treatment through intravenous antibiotics. Because the woman’s infection is more severe at this point, the efficacy of oral antibiotics alone is usually not particularly good.
