Be alert when you have hematuria

Kidney stone disease has a variety of symptoms, of which hematuria and nausea are only some, while pain and vomiting are among the symptoms of kidney stones. The series of symptoms that occur in kidney stones are related to the degree of stone obstruction, size and the presence of secondary infection. The most important symptoms of kidney stones are hematuria and pain. More than half of the patients with kidney stones have different degrees of back pain, and the pain status varies depending on the size of the stone. The pain caused by large stones is dull or vague, while the pain caused by small stones is colic, also called renal colic. When colic occurs, it lasts from a few minutes to a few hours and is paroxysmal, with the patient experiencing nausea and vomiting and dripping sweat. Hematuria is the main symptom of kidney stones, but it is usually difficult to detect with the naked eye and most patients require microscopy to observe hematuria. Hematuria usually occurs after exercise or exertion. Some patients with kidney stones do not experience pain and hematuria, and it is difficult to detect the presence of stones without further urinary tract examination.
