Foreskin is long, who should cut point?

According to statistics, more than 90% of men are circumcised. The propaganda like “let your child win at the starting line” makes many parents of only children nervous, always wanting to let their children grow up with the most perfect everything. The “penis” is the lifeblood of the male and cannot be ignored. The small foreskin is a major concern for parents and the health of their children. It is true that circumcision is small, but it is a matter of sacred and serious reproductive health! To do or not to do? Amidst the cries of cutting and concerns about over-treatment, we expect that a scientific introduction will give you a chance to choose for yourself after you learn about it!

Do not look at circumcision as a simple disease, it also needs to be identified with other diseases; is circumcision to prevent infection, tumor, or simply cosmetic? Is circumcision a minor surgery that doesn’t matter (there are small organs, but no minor surgery. The smaller the organ, the more careful design and delicate operation is needed, just as it is much more difficult to operate on a finger than on a thigh). In fact, it is quite harmful if not done properly; to cut or not to cut? When to cut? What type of surgery should be used: Korean or European? Which is right and which is wrong? I hope you can read it and solve your confusion!

Every summer, there is such a sight as déjà vu: rows and rows of chairs with many children wearing big pants, they are panicked by their parents into a room, a few minutes later or bared teeth, or full of tears, or bawling forked legs with duck steps out, and next to them, is a face full of happy parents, as if all this has brought countless happiness! The children next to look at all this a little timid, however, before the time to look back, and then there are people in white shouting: next! This was not a Nazi concentration camp, but a scene that took place in front of the operating room of the hospital’s male outpatient clinic, where parents took their children on a holiday for circumcision.

The foreskin is a special layer of skin wrapped around the male urethra and the head of the penis, hence the name “foreskin”. The foreskin is special because it is located in a special place, at the “root” of a man’s life. In recent years, in many countries, such as the United States, most newborns are circumcised shortly after birth, and the practice is also prevalent among Islamists. In our country, where the health level has improved, there is a trend of “universal circumcision” campaign, and many people still think that this is a sign of their improved health awareness, only to see the harm and ignore the benefits, thinking that a small operation is a test for a small “man”. The first thing you need to do is to start actively circumcising yourself.

A. Who is the foreskin really messing with?

The common view is that a small cut, a circumcision can bring many benefits to men. But is that really true? The global medical community has questioned this in recent years!

Beneficial in preventing infections from sexually transmitted diseases.

Some studies support this idea and have even found that it can reduce the incidence of HIV by 50% in Africa. After circumcision, the warm environment of the foreskin cavity, which is conducive to the reproduction of bacteria and viruses, is broken, which may have a positive effect on the suppression of HIV infection. However, to prevent HIV, it is important to be clean and take safe measures during sex. Almost all experts agree that it is important to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections by reducing high-risk sexual activity or wearing condoms, rather than hoping for circumcision, which is the fundamental approach; nor should circumcision be an excuse to encourage risky sexual behavior.

It facilitates daily genital hygiene and prevents infections and malignant changes in the genital tract of both sexes (such as penile cancer and prostate tumors in men and cervical cancer in women).

If the simple foreskin is not repeatedly infected, the chance of causing penile cancer is not particularly high; likewise, the simple foreskin itself pays attention to cleanliness and hygiene and frequently cleans the secretions in the penile foreskin cavity, which can also avoid the chance of genital infection for itself and its sexual partners, and accordingly will not increase the chance of genital tract tumors in its partners.

There are also therapeutic effects on premature ejaculation.

The causes of premature ejaculation are complex and can not be attributed simply to peripheral nerve sensation. Many people do not have results after circumcision, and the existing international and domestic treatment programs for premature ejaculation do not have circumcision as such.

Based on the above, more and more doctors are advocating caution in this matter and that the procedure should be performed only when necessary, or at least when it is not harmful.

Secondly, who should cut the child’s foreskin?

Many parents choose circumcision for their children, on the one hand, because they have heard a lot about the dangers of foreskin, on the other hand, they also think that foreskin is a skin anyway, there is no use.

In fact, the benefits of the foreskin are too numerous to mention. For example, the secretions of the foreskin originally had antibacterial ingredients, which is more clear on the lysozyme, can play a role in killing germs; another example, the foreskin can increase the pleasure of sex; foreskin can play a role in protecting the glans, and so on.

In fact, the majority of boys are born with varying degrees of “foreskin”, but not all of them need to be cut. When is it necessary to cut, please take a look at the following situations.

Congenital prepuce: The opening of the foreskin is narrow, so when you urinate, the foreskin will first bulge up like a balloon, and then slowly subside after urine flows out; after urinating, a few drops of urine will drip out and dirty the underwear; in serious cases, there will be frequent infections due to poor urine discharge, and even urine reflux leads to excessive bladder expansion, and urine flows back into the kidneys and damages the kidney function.

Acquired prepuce: The child is not originally circumcised, but the foreskin is too long or too tight and not very easy to clean, so it may cause inflammation; repeated inflammation leads to adhesions and narrowing of the foreskin opening, making it impossible to expose the glans, as well as painful and uncomfortable sensations, especially after erection.

Repeated episodes of foreskin glansitis: repeated inflammation of the foreskin or glans, which is difficult to treat or difficult to avoid in the living environment, and when there is not enough care, consider circumcision.

Tight foreskin: the foreskin is too tight to clean, so that a large amount of foreskin scale accumulates under the foreskin; after the age of 6 there is still a narrow foreskin opening and the foreskin cannot be turned up to reveal the glans, at which point circumcision is required.

Embedded prepuce: When the foreskin is pushed backward, it exposes the coronal groove and reveals the glans, but because of the small foreskin opening, it is stuck in the penis and hinders the return flow of lymphatic fluid and veins; if it fails to reset in time, it may lead to edema, congestion and even gangrene of the distal penis and foreskin.

When you recognize the above-mentioned situations clearly, you should reconsider whether your child is really in urgent need of circumcision.

Even if it is cut, but also to pick a good time, now more than advocate newborn on circumcision, generally preschool (around 6 years old) best. This is because at this time the boy’s sexual awareness is still very hazy, sexual psychology has not yet formed, surgery will not have more negative psychological impact on it.

In addition, in the past, it was considered better to choose the autumn and winter season for surgery, but now, due to the application and popularity of air conditioning, surgery can also be done in summer.
