How to care for children with ptosis after surgery

  1. Postoperative medication ordering for ptosis: It is important to order medication after surgery, and if it is not in place, exposure keratitis or even corneal ulcers may occur. During the daytime, take levofloxacin eye drops and sodium glacial drops three times a day, with at least 5 minutes between the two drugs, and stop taking them for about a month. At bedtime, you should order calf’s blood deprotein gel (or Bevacor) once, and five minutes later, you should order Topaz ophthalmic ointment to ensure that the surface of the eye is moist during the whole sleeping process. It is necessary to continue for about one year until the eyes are basically closed when sleeping. 2, impingement: after surgery some babies will gradually appear upper eyelid impingement, related to the child’s own lid is relatively soft, manifested as upper eyelashes rubbing the eyeball, the child’s eyes red and uncomfortable, if parents find this situation need to promptly go to the hospital for examination, some children need to perform the second phase of impingement correction. 3. Rejection: There is a possibility of rejection of the suspension line used for surgery, although the chance is relatively small, but children with allergies should pay extra attention to it, mainly because the swelling of the surgical site does not subside, or it has recovered well, and then suddenly appears red and swollen or even pus, mostly after fever and cold or local trauma, this situation also requires timely treatment in the hospital, and some children can recover after local treatment. If the eyelid is in a good position, there is no need to do it again, but if the ptosis recurs, a second surgery is needed. Amblyopia training: Babies with ptosis often have a combination of refractive error and amblyopia, which requires further treatment after surgery. 5. Recurrence: Ptosis has a recurrence rate. Mild regressions do not require treatment and can be treated with another cosmetic surgery when the baby reaches adulthood. 6. Review time: generally one week, one month, three months, six months, one year after surgery, or anytime if there are special circumstances.
