One type of cough in children has a peculiar presentation: it is usually a frequent irritating dry cough, or often chest tightness, long outgassing, aggravated at night, aggravated by cold air, strenuous activity, or emotional excitement, with no significant effect with antibiotics or cough suppressants, and a long duration, with croup or shortness of breath appearing in the lungs only after a few months to more than a year. This is characteristic of cough variant asthma (also known as allergic cough and cryptogenic asthma) in children. After the first treatment has relieved the disease, the airways remain chronically inflamed with allergic reactions, so treatment should be maintained for months to years to fix the root cause. Avoid contact with allergens and irritants (such as pollen, paints, fumes, gasoline, fish, shrimp, crabs, decorative products, etc.) to prevent allergy; avoid contact with patients to prevent infection; add or remove clothing in time with temperature changes to avoid getting cold to prevent catching a cold; drink hot soup as much as possible and avoid yogurt and cold drinks; and exercise gradually for cold tolerance.
