The symptoms of hypertonic dehydration vary according to the degree of dehydration. Generally, in the early stages of the disease, patients do not show any symptoms other than thirst. Later on, there is oliguria, weakness, dry lips and tongue, loss of skin elasticity, sunken eye sockets, and in severe cases, mental symptoms may appear. Any inadequate intake of water or excessive loss of water should be promptly rehydrated and brought to attention.
