Embryo transfer is the last crucial step of IVF, and both doctors and patients are full of expectations, especially the patients who are often under great psychological pressure in spite of their hopes. We often encounter patients who ask, “Doctor, what should I take care of to get pregnant?” “Doctor, what can I take to help me get pregnant?” We have summarized the common questions for your reference as follows.
1. How to hold urine properly before transplantation?
The proper amount of urine can help the doctor to see the endometrium and place the embryo accurately, which is an important factor to ensure the smoothness of the transfer operation. Too little urine can’t help to see the endometrium and too much can affect the post-operative rest. It is recommended to buy a bottle of orange juice (the kind you buy in supermarkets in plastic bottles, the thicker the better, but not with fruit grains) and a bottle of plain water that you bring with you is enough. The trick is to drink slowly: take a sip, rest for two or three minutes and then take another sip …… so that the water you drink in slowly goes down in your body, until you feel suffocated before the transplant but not too much. You can get out of bed and go to the toilet to urinate on your own half an hour after the transplant, and the embryo will not flow out as a result.
2. Do you need to “lie down all the time” after the transfer?
Whether or not to lie down after the transfer has no effect on the success rate of IVF. It depends on the customary practice of each doctor, hospital and country. The success of IVF will not be affected by whether you lie down after embryo implantation or not. In the UK and Germany, patients are told to go home after 30 minutes of lying down in the hospital or even driving home after the embryo implantation procedure. And most of the clinical data shows that prolonged bed rest i.e. did not improve clinical pregnancy rate, nor did it reduce early miscarriage rate and ectopic pregnancy rate.
Our recommendation is to get more rest after transplantation, but avoid being bedridden or lying flat, no matter what position, sleep as much as you like, and pay attention to not sitting up at once when you get up, but first turn on your side, support the bed with your hand and get up slowly. Appropriate rest to not increase mental stress, psychological burden as the premise, as long as not overly strenuous, can go to work. Excessive rest, prolonged bed rest, poor blood circulation, is harmful and may cause venous thrombosis of the lower limbs.
Appropriate activities can help embryo implantation, but pay attention not to lift heavy objects after transplantation, avoid sports with force, try not to run or ride a bicycle, slow walking is good for health and safety.
3.What can I eat and what can’t I eat after the transplantation?
You can eat whatever you want after transplantation, especially you can eat more vegetables and protein-rich foods.
(1) Eat foods that are easy to digest. Due to the reduced activity after surgery, indigestion and constipation can easily occur, so choose foods that are easy to digest (rice porridge, soup) and foods rich in dietary fiber (celery, cabbage, corn, yam).
(2) Eat fewer and more frequent meals, and master the principle of “less bites” when eating.
(3) What is not recommended to eat: food that activates blood circulation and has the function of removing dampness and detoxification (sesame oil, black fungus, cinnamon, coix seeds, tonic); alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, tea; cold food should be eaten as little as possible.
4.Does mood affect pregnancy?
Modern medicine has proved that emotions have a great influence on pregnancy, people in anxiety and mental tension adrenal glands will secrete a hormone to kill the embryo, which is the reason why some people get pregnant accidentally after a relaxed spirit. Therefore, it is important to be in a good state of mind after the transplantation, optimistic and keep a happy mood. If you can’t do this, you should at least keep your mood calm and relaxed and not think much about the result and suffer from loss. Be sure to maintain a calm mood, do not be anxious, do not get angry.
5.Can I participate in social activities after transplantation?
Try not to participate in social activities and avoid going to the environment where there is a concentration of people and serious air pollution. Avoid being frightened by others or traffic.
6.What should I do if I have bad bowel movements?
Do not have diarrhea or constipation. Especially constipation, be sure to keep the bowels open, if there is constipation do not hard to solve the stool, wait until there is a bowel movement. In general, eating more vegetables can keep your bowels open. Introduce several suitable methods to keep the bowels open.
(1) eat a meal of Changjiang beans every day, can be fried, can also be cooked and cold.
(2) Eating beans is very useful for some people to keep their bowels open.
(3) Eat milk and honey.
(4) a glass of water in the morning and evening, for some people to prevent constipation effect is not sloppy.
(5) Do not eat spicy, do not use drugs to laxative.
