How to use eye medication

When using eye drops tilt your head back, gently pull the lower eyelid downward with your thumb and index finger to make a groove, bring the bottle close to the eyelid but do not touch it, put the drops into the groove, then close your eyes and gently press the corner of the eye on the nose side with your finger for 1 to 2 minutes so that the drops do not flow from the surface of the eye through the nasolacrimal duct into the nasal cavity and throat, while blinking several times so that the drops are evenly coated on the surface of the eye. Children should be more careful with eye drops. When using atropine drops to dilate the pupil for optometry, the inner canthus should be compressed for at least 5 minutes to avoid or reduce the occurrence of drug reactions such as fever, facial flushing, dry mouth, and increased heart rate. Ophthalmic ointment is a sterile preparation prepared with an ophthalmic ointment base. When using it, squeeze out a certain amount of ophthalmic ointment into a line and place it in the groove described above, taking care that the tip of the ointment tube does not touch the eye to avoid scratching the cornea, close the eye and turn it several times to disperse the ointment evenly.
