Can cystic thyroid nodules heal on their own?

It is generally accepted that cysts form when enlarged thyroid nodules are replaced by degeneration, necrosis, dissolution of thyroid tissue within the membranes, bleeding, or leakage of blood components. It is also believed that cysts form when thyroid adenomas degenerate and become necrotic, and cystic changes are found in some thyroid cancers or Hashimoto’s goiters. In general, there are three regression pathways for thyroid cysts. 1. Some nodules will slowly partially absorb the cystic fluid after the first intracapsular hemorrhage, so the nodule will shrink somewhat from its previous size. 2. The size of the cystic nodule remains the same. If the above two types of cystic nodules have no pressure symptoms and are considered benign nodules, they can be temporarily left untreated and observed. 3, cystic nodules are getting larger and larger, gradually appearing pressure symptoms, patients have breathing difficulties, local discomfort and other manifestations, is an indication for surgical removal, surgery is also the main way to treat cystic thyroid nodules. There are also reports of puncture treatment of cystic thyroid nodules, and its long-term effectiveness needs to be further tested.
