How to deal with chronic dry cough in the elderly

Elderly people with chronic dry cough should first go to the hospital for chest X-ray or chest CT, blood tests and other tests to further clarify the diagnosis. Chronic dry cough in the elderly is often seen in diseases such as chronic bronchitis, bronchial dilatation, tuberculosis, lung tumors and so on. If bronchitis and bronchiectasis are considered, anti-inflammatory and cough suppressant treatment can be given, and anti-inflammatory treatment with antibiotics can be applied. If tuberculosis is considered, anti-TB treatment with anti-TB drugs is required, and liver and kidney function and blood tests should be followed up regularly during anti-TB treatment. If lung tumor is considered, the treatment plan should be decided according to the situation, and a combination of treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy can be applied.
