Masticatory muscle spasm is one of the symptoms of early onset of Clostridium tetani infection. Clostridium tetani (clostridiumtetani) is the pathogenic bacterium that leads to tetanus, which exists in large quantities in the intestinal tract of humans and animals, contaminated soil by feces, and causes disease by wound infection. Examination: Tetanus incubation period is variable, short 1~2 days, long up to 2 months, the average 7~14 days. The shorter the incubation period, the higher the rate of death. Early onset of the disease there are fever, headache, discomfort, muscle aches and other prodromal symptoms, local muscle twitching, difficulty in opening the mouth, chewing muscle spasm, the patient’s teeth are closed, a bitter smile face. Then the neck, trunk and limb muscles contract tonicly, the body is corkscrew, facial purple pincers, breathing difficulties, and finally can die due to asphyxia. The death rate is about 50%, especially in newborns and the elderly. Relief methods: 1. Proper wound treatment: Clean the wound and flush the wound with hydrogen peroxide (H2O) to eliminate the anaerobic environment. 2, local or systemic application of antibiotics: such as high doses of penicillin to prevent the growth and reproduction of local bacteria in the wound. 3.Inject tetanus antitoxin (TAT): neutralize free tetanus exotoxin and provide emergency vaccination and symptomatic treatment to patients. 4.Application of toxoid for vaccination: The main targets are children, military personnel and high-risk groups who are vulnerable to trauma.
