Causes of high glucose

High glucose inside the blood means high blood glucose. There are many factors that lead to elevated blood glucose, and the common causes are:

1. Dietary factors: (1) eating too many sweets or drinking too many sugar-sweetened beverages leads to a short-term increase in blood glucose; (2) drinking alcohol leads to impaired hepatic glycogen breakdown and synthesis;

2. Elevated levels of blood glucose-raising hormones: (1) sleep disorders; (2) Elevated placental hormone levels in women during pregnancy, especially in mid- to late pregnancy.

3. Stressful conditions such as after surgery, trauma, sudden acute and critical illness or major mental stimulation.

4. Obesity leads to peripheral tissue insensitivity to insulin, which is the only hormone in the body that lowers blood glucose, and peripheral tissue insensitivity to insulin leads to elevated blood glucose.

5. Diseases: Severe liver disease, pancreatic disease, autoimmune disease, due to genetic mutations.

6. Medications: (1) glucocorticoids (cortisone, hydrocortisone, prednisone, prednisolone, dexamethasone, etc.); (2) anti-schizophrenic drugs (chlorpromazine, haloperidol, trifloxystrobin, clozapine, olanzapine, risperidone, quetiapine, aripiprazole, ziprasidone, etc.); (3) asthma medications (e.g. terbutaline, theophylline, dihydroxypropyl theophylline, salbutamol, etc.) ).
