Picture Screening for Early Detection of Childhood Eye Problems

During a child’s growth and development period, the normal development of vision may be affected due to various reasons (e.g. refractive errors, strabismus, cataracts, ptosis, etc.). Early detection and effective intervention can promote normal visual development and even restore normal binocular vision. However, if the optimal treatment time is missed, it is almost impossible to cure the damaged vision and visual function until the visual development matures. Currently, our ophthalmology department is able to conduct eye examinations for children aged 6 months to 3 years old by applying the method of picture screening to detect eye diseases such as strabismus, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and congenital cataracts. This method is non-invasive, does not require verbal communication, takes only a few minutes, and the results can be obtained on-site, which is not only easy for children to accept, but also allows them to communicate well with their parents.
