How to use crutches properly

Correct use of crutches – crutches can help walk when one leg or ankle is injured. Walking: 1. Place the crutches parallel to the front of the body, with the injured leg hanging in the air and not touching the ground; 2. Hold the crutch handle with both hands and hold the body up with both arms straight, do not rely on the armpits to set the body on the crutches to avoid nerve damage; 3. Shift the body’s weight forward and swing the healthy leg (support leg) forward to land in front of the crutch line after the weight crosses the plane of the crutch line; 4. Repeat the above actions. Stand up: 1, the crutches together, standing next to the injured leg; 2, one hand grasps the crutch handle, the other hand presses the armrest of the sofa or bed; 3, both hands force the body up, relying on the healthy side of the leg to complete standing; 4, a crutch handed to the healthy side of the hand, the crutches placed parallel to the front of the body, ready to walk. Sitting: 1, the crutches together, standing next to the injured leg; 2, one hand grasps the crutch handle, the other hand presses the armrest of the sofa or the bed; 3, the healthy side of the leg force, the weight down, while keeping the injured leg from touching the ground. Step up: 1.Body close to the step; 2.Arms brace up, the healthy leg step to the upper step; 3.Healthy leg straighten, body slightly lean forward, while bringing the injured leg and crutches to the same step; 4.Arms again, the healthy leg repeat the above action to the upper step. Down the steps: 1, down the steps is the opposite; 2, first put the crutches parallel on the next step, the affected leg moved forward; 3, arms force up, the healthy leg flexed to move to the next step, support standing; 4, then move the crutches down a step, repeat the above actions. Use the stair handrail: 1, you can put the crutches together on the other side of the handrail; 2, with the help of the stair handrail and crutches to support both hands to complete the next step; 3, up and down the steps need to remember the principle: “go upstairs to take good legs, downstairs to take hurt legs”. Through the doorway: 1, make sure the door can be opened large enough to allow yourself to pass through properly; 2, through, with one side of the crutch leg against the lower edge of the door panel to prevent the door from closing automatically.
