What is hip dysplasia?

Have the baby lie flat in a supine position with legs together. If unequal length of both lower limbs and asymmetrical skin folds on the thighs are observed, this suggests possible hip dysplasia.
If the knees are not at the same height, the baby may have a hip dislocation.
If the baby’s legs can only be abducted by 40° to 50°, hip dysplasia may be present.
A reluctance or stiffness in the movement of one hip, inconsistent kicking and stirring power of the legs, and in some cases, a popping sound in the movement of the hip, suggest possible hip dysplasia.
