Difference between oral cavity erosion and oral ulcer

Oral erosions are identical to mouth ulcers in that they appear ulcerated and painful. The difference is that oral ulcers have a more limited presentation, with more regular rounded edges and a round or oval shape, with clearer borders and may be slightly depressed. In contrast, oral erosion is irregular in shape, with unclear edges of surrounding tissues, erosion in patches, and the surrounding mucosa is flush and not protruding or depressed. In fact, oral ulcers have a shorter course, healing between 7-10 days, which is relatively dry and sharp. However, celiac disease heals more slowly and drastically. It is difficult to distinguish between oral ulcers and oral erosions, they may exist or transform into each other. When it is impossible to distinguish them, it is necessary to go to a specialist hospital to distinguish between erosions and ulcers.
