Symptoms of trigeminal neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a severe pain that occurs in the distribution area of the trigeminal nerve in the face. Trigeminal neuralgia is a neurological disease that is as painful as a discharge or a knife cut, and is unbearable for people. The incidence is high, the age is mostly after 40 years old, more women than men. The specific symptoms are as follows: 1. Paroxysmal severe pain in the facial trigeminal nerve distribution area, lasting from a few seconds to 1-2 minutes, with the same pain situation each time. 2, pain can be caused by the movement of the mouth, tongue or external stimulation, there is often a “trigger point”, touching the pain, mostly in the lips, nose, eyebrows and mouth, etc., for fear of causing attacks, patients often do not wash their faces, less food and drink, resulting in facial dirt, wasting, severe cases of physical weakness, bedridden. 3.About 60% of patients have ipsilateral or bilateral eye lacrimation and drooling during painful attacks. Occasionally, there is an uncontrollable twitch of facial expression muscle, which is called “painful twitch”. In some cases, the skin is red and hot, and about 2.7% of the patients have chills when they have pain, and occasionally they have severe itching. More than half of the patients press or rub the affected area to relieve the pain, and occasionally chew or smack their lips to reduce the pain. 4.The pain is limited to one or more branches of the trigeminal nerve on one side, with the right side and two or three branches being the most common, and the pain on both sides is rare (0.6%-5.3%). 5. The pain is periodic, and the painless period (a few days to a few years) is gradually shortened, and gradually and seriously affects eating and resting, so that the pain is unbearable, and self-healing is rare. Trigeminal neuralgia can come on suddenly without any aura, mostly on one side. When the attack occurs, the pain is as severe as a knife cut or electric shock, lasting from a few seconds to 1-2 minutes, often accompanied by facial muscle twitching, lacrimation, salivation, facial flushing, conjunctival congestion and other symptoms.
