Bruising of the lower legs is usually caused by trauma. However, clinically, bruising of the lower legs can also occur without trauma, such as some hematologic disorders, which can lead to coagulation disorders and capillary or venous rupture when the patient is inadvertently injured, resulting in bruising of the lower legs. In addition, patients with varicose veins in the lower extremities have bruised calves due to the large number of superficial veins that are tortuous under the skin, which is actually a phenomenon caused by venous stagnation and not due to capillary or vein rupture.
