The exact definition of cervical spondylosis: degenerative changes of the cervical disc tissue and its secondary degenerative (i.e., aging) changes of the intervertebral joints involving the surrounding important tissue structures (nerve roots, spinal cord, vertebral artery, sympathetic nerves, etc.), with corresponding clinical manifestations as cervical spondylosis. This means that cervical spondylosis contains three basic elements. 1. Degeneration of cervical intervertebral disc or degeneration of intervertebral joint. 2.Involvement of its surrounding tissues. 3. The corresponding clinical manifestations appear. If there is only degeneration of the cervical intervertebral disc and cervical spine osteophytes without corresponding clinical manifestations of nerve, spinal cord or blood vessel involvement, it is not cervical spondylosis.
