Carbamazepine and oxcarbazepine are the first-line drugs for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia, and Stefan recently reported that the effective average dose of carbamazepine was 600 mg and 98% effective, while the effective average dose of oxcarbazepine was 1200 mg and 94% effective. 27% of carbamazepine-treated patients had a relapse due to dose reduction as a result of toxic side effects. 18% of oxcarbazepine-treated patients had a relapse due to dose reduction as a result of toxic side effects. The relapse occurred in 18% of patients treated with oxcarbazepine because of the toxic side effects of the drug. Only a minority of patients developed drug tolerance during treatment, and 3% of patients worsened after drug treatment. Evaluation: The study found that only a minority of patients developed drug tolerance during treatment, reversing the traditional concept that most patients develop drug tolerance. We often find in our clinic that patients are effective in the early stage, and as the duration of treatment increases, the effect decreases, the dose increases, and finally the patient cannot tolerate and is operated. However, many of our patients take their medications irregularly, which may affect our results.
