First of all, frostbite usually occurs at the end of the limbs, on the exposed skin areas. Therefore, the common sites for frostbite are the fingers, toes, ears, tip of the nose, back of the hand, etc. The typical early clinical presentation of frostbite is a purplish-red edematous plaque in these areas, and the borders of frostbite are usually very clear, with discoloration from pressure. Patients with frostbite do not experience any specific breakouts or blisters in the early stages, but frostbite can become locally itchy when encountering a rise in temperature. If the frostbite worsens further, blisters or even local ulcers may develop and may be accompanied by significant pain.
