Knowledge and process of 3D printing and implantation

“Dental implants have many advantages, such as no wear on neighboring teeth, strong chewing power, and appearance similar to real teeth, so more and more patients with missing teeth want to receive dental implants. However, with the popularization of implant technology, people have higher and higher expectations for the aesthetic and functional restoration of implant restorations, which requires a more precise placement of each implant, which poses a greater challenge for the design and production of implant guides. 3D printing technology is becoming more and more obvious in the field of dentistry because of the advantages of computer simulation, medical prototyping according to the individual needs of the patient, three-dimensional printing of three-dimensional objects, and the manufacture of medical biomaterials or prostheses. 3D printing guided dental implant technology is a combination of computed tomography (CT), computer-aided design (CAD) and rapid prototyping (RP) technologies applied to dental implant surgery. 3D printed implant guides are used to measure in detail the bone density of the patient’s dental bed, the height and width of the alveolar bone itself and other conditions before the dental implant surgery, to measure which piece of the patient’s dental bed bone The patient’s dental implant guide is quickly made by 3D printing technology using these precise data. Each patient’s implant guide is custom-made according to the patient’s oral condition and implant plan. The computer marks the implant guide holes on the guide plate precisely, and the position, height, diameter and angle of the guide holes are calculated precisely. When the patient wears the guide plate in the mouth during the surgery, the doctor does not need to visually check the implant position based on experience, and can directly insert the implant into the positioning guide hole, which not only shortens the implant time, but also improves the accuracy and safety of the implant to the greatest extent. However, up to now, there are only a few dental institutions in our province that have 3D imaging and 3D printing equipment for oral CT (CBCT), so there are few medical institutions that can carry out this 3D printing implant guide technology. Xiangya Stomatological Hospital of Central South University is the executive director of Hunan Province 3D Digital Manufacturing Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance, and 3D printing implant surgery has been the first to be used in clinical practice. 3D printing navigation technology implantation process: 1. doctor’s initial consultation, acquisition of plaster dental model, CT shooting; 2. with the participation of doctors, through computer-aided design software design the best implant space location, propose the best implant plan, design the corresponding implant surgery guide; 3. laser scanning plaster model, 3D printing production of surgical guide; 4. doctors under the guidance of 3D printing navigation system for implant 4. The surgeon is guided by the 3D printing navigation system to perform the implant surgery.
