OBJECTIVE: To introduce the interphalangeal fasciocutaneous flap for congenital syndactyly. METHODS: From January 1995 to March 2011, we treated 36 cases (43 hands) with congenital syndactyly using interphalangeal discarded skin in a fasciocutaneous flap. There were 23 males and 13 females, aged 2.3 to 27 years (mean 3.4 years), with 24 left hands and 19 right hands. Among them, 31 cases were inserted into the fasciocutaneous flap of the posterior web of the finger, 5 cases were inserted into the dorsal fasciocutaneous flap of the interphalangeal palm, and (2 cases were repaired at the same time) the bony surface of the end of the finger. None of them had skin implants. RESULTS: The incision healed in one stage after surgery, and all flaps were viable with good appearance. CONCLUSION: This procedure is a good method to take more and fill in less for congenital syndactyly.
