Is unilateral tonsillar enlargement cancer?

When a patient has unilateral enlargement of the tonsils, it is not necessarily a cancerous disease of the pharynx. The degree of enlargement of the tonsils may not be identical on both sides of the patient, and it is possible that the enlargement may be more severe on one side and less severe on the other. It is possible that there is a congenital cause of tonsillar enlargement, or that chronic inflammation of the tonsils leads to gradual local hyperplasia, and is not a malignant lesion. If a patient has unilateral tonsils that swell rapidly in a short period of time, it is necessary to strengthen the observation of this side of the tonsils. If suspicious cancerous manifestations are found, further biopsy pathological examination can be performed by taking some tissues to help further clarify the diagnosis.
