The amount of myopia that grows in a year is mainly related to the habits of eye use and age. If you are a young child, such as 8-9 years old or 14-15 years old, you are at the peak of eye use and your eyes are still developing, so if you don’t pay attention to your eyes, your myopia may increase by 50-100 degrees a year. The normal range of myopia growth is about 50 degrees, if it is more than 50 degrees, it is considered that the myopia growth is relatively fast and can be controlled by considering keratoplasty or low concentration atropine. In adults, myopia is usually stable or does not change much, and may only increase by about 25 degrees a year, and the total increase is usually about 100 degrees. If the annual increase in myopia is more than 100 degrees in adulthood, active medical attention is needed, and pathological myopia may develop, requiring some surgery to control the increase in myopia.
