Six misconceptions about in vitro fertilization

Nowadays, more and more couples are conceiving through IVF technology, but there are also many people who have various misconceptions about IVF technology. What is the real situation of these misconceptions? Myth 1: You want to do IVF after you have taken care of your body in other ways Many couples have the idea that “taking western medicine has a big impact on your body”, so they want to improve their health through traditional medicine such as food and Chinese medicine. However, women’s ovaries start to decline in function from the age of 35-37, and traditional medicine has a relatively long cycle. Therefore, it is important to go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible. Many women have this misconception about ovulation, but each woman has about 300,000 eggs in her ovaries during puberty, and about 30 eggs shrink every day for about 40 years after the first menstruation. Normally, only one egg develops and ovulates each month, while the rest shrink and are depleted. Ovulation promotion is a way to obtain egg cells by making other follicles develop and the eggs mature, so there is no extra loss of ovarian eggs, so there is no lack of eggs or early aging. Myth 3: Ovulation promotion makes people fat After entering an ovulation promotion cycle, some patients find that they gain weight after the ovulation promotion injection. This is because ovulation promotion causes estrogen levels to rise and water retention in the body leads to weight gain or edema. After a period of time, as the medication is metabolized, the estrogen level returns to normal and the retained water is discharged from the body, and the weight is naturally restored. Myth 4: In vitro fertilization and transplantation procedures are painful. The procedure is performed under anesthesia by an anesthesiologist and is short, painless and safe. The transplantation procedure does not require anesthesia and requires lying down for about half an hour after the procedure. Both operations can be performed without hospitalization and without being fully bedridden. Myth 5: During IVF, you should take bed rest at home. During IVF, except for egg retrieval and transplantation, you should not take bed rest at home, you can go to work normally and do appropriate activities because bed rest does not help to improve the chance of conception. Excessive attention can lead to emotional anxiety and even contractions, so a reasonable mix of rest and exercise and emotional relaxation is needed. Myth 6: IVF has a high risk of defects and easy miscarriage Since its development in 1978, IVF technology has become quite mature. Long-term clinical follow-up has confirmed that the malformation rate and early miscarriage rate of IVF are similar to those of natural conception, and there is no possibility of high fetal defects and easy miscarriage. IVF technology as a means to achieve infertility couples to conceive a baby is safe and effective, and it is best to effectively communicate with the attending physician if there is any relevant situation during the process to achieve better treatment results.
