Are diffuse pulmonary nodules serious?

Whether a diffuse pulmonary nodule is serious depends on the nature of the nodule.

Diffuse pulmonary nodules can occur with lung infection or chronic pneumonia. Patients may present with fever, chest pain, cough, and sputum, and the symptoms may resolve with anti-infective treatment with sensitive antibiotics, and most pulmonary nodules disappear with treatment. The diffuse pulmonary nodules that manifest in chronic pneumonia can be left untreated if there are no symptoms.

Diffuse pulmonary nodules presenting with tuberculosis are wasting diseases, most of which are relatively infectious and can be cured with aggressive anti-tuberculosis therapy.

Diffuse pulmonary nodules in silicosis are not clinically curable, have prolonged exacerbations, and are mostly specific occupational diseases; patients have poor lung function, which leads to a significant decrease in physical fitness, inability to perform physical work, and a tendency to develop respiratory infections.

Diffuse pulmonary nodules due to lung cancer, in most cases the cancer has spread and is poorly treated with surgery or radiotherapy. In addition, other malignant tumors that metastasize to the lungs can also manifest as diffuse nodules in the lungs.
