Sudden deafness

What is sudden deafness? Sudden deafness is simply a sudden loss of hearing in the ear. The medical definition is a sudden, unexplained sensorineural hearing loss. Why do you get sudden deafness? What are the causes? There are many theories, including viral infections, circulatory disorders, autoimmunity, and rupture of the membrane vagus. But too many of them mean that the cause is not really clear! Some patients have a more obvious history of exertion, emotional excitement, mental stress and cold, which may have some relationship with the onset of the disease. What tests need to be done to know? Hearing tests, of course. It can determine the nature of deafness: (sensorineural deafness), degree (mild, moderate, severe). CT, MR examination. (Exclude organic and tumor lesions of the internal auditory tract and cranial brain.) What should be the treatment? How effective is it? There are many methods, but the following are currently recognized and used by the academic community: hormones. Drugs to improve microcirculation in the inner ear (including Ginkgo biloba preparations, prostaglandins, etc.); thrombolytic and anticoagulant drugs (including Dongling Dif, etc., with attention to coagulation); neurotrophic drugs with drugs to promote nerve cell function recovery; hyperbaric oxygen therapy, traditional Chinese acupuncture; relaxation and cooperation with treatment in order to obtain better clinical results. The effectiveness rate is around 70%. That means that no matter how hard we try, there are 30% of patients whose treatment is ineffective. There is a relationship between the time of starting treatment and the prognosis. That is, the earlier the treatment, the better the effect, more than 7 days before treatment, the effect will be greatly reduced oh. In general, the lighter and fewer the symptoms at the onset, the better the recovery. The heavier the hearing loss at the onset, the more the symptoms, and if accompanied by vertigo and tinnitus, the more difficult it is to recover. Children and the elderly have poorer hearing recovery than other age groups. So how can it be prevented? Although there are no targeted preventive measures. However, it is important to lead a healthy life: strengthen exercise, enhance physical fitness, avoid colds and prevent viral infections. Do not overexert yourself, pay attention to the combination of work and rest, and keep your body and mind happy. Maintain a balanced diet and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Reduce the stimulation of smoking, alcohol, coffee, etc. Control systemic chronic diseases such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. For those who already have sudden deafness and have poor hearing after treatment, it is recommended that the healthy side of the ear should be especially protected: avoid exposure to noise. Avoid ototoxic drugs. Avoid ear trauma and infections of the ear.
