Small cell lung cancer is the most malignant type of lung cancer, and it is also ranked at the top of all malignant tumors. The prognosis of most patients is poor, and the survival period of many patients is less than one year. Small cell lung cancer belongs to malignant neuroendocrine tumors, and its biological behavior is very different from other types of lung cancer. It has the characteristics of early metastasis, strong invasiveness and rapid proliferation, and most patients have already had metastasis to distant organs at the time of initial diagnosis, which makes the prognosis extremely poor. Since more than 90% of small cell lung cancer patients have distant metastases at the time of diagnosis, surgical treatment is not recommended as the first choice of treatment, and only a very small number of patients with stage I or IIa can consider surgical treatment as appropriate. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are the main treatments for most NSCLC patients. Commonly used chemotherapeutic drugs include platinum drugs, etoposide, irinotecan, etc. However, drug resistance occurs in some of the patients, which is one of the important factors for the poor prognosis of patients. Local radiotherapy can improve the tumor control rate and prolong the survival time to a certain extent. Patients suffering from small cell lung cancer are recommended to go to the hospital as early as possible, and make treatment plan under the guidance of professional doctors to prolong the survival time as much as possible.
