Myopia and hyperopia are both refractive errors that do not cancel each other out. If an eye is nearsighted, it must not be farsighted, and vice versa, unless a child has an unusual condition where one eye is nearsighted and the other is farsighted, which is not uncommon. The methods of correction for myopia or hyperopia are basically the same, and can be improved through frame glasses or corneal contact lenses, or in the case of adults, surgical treatment, including excimer laser surgery, femtosecond laser surgery or intraocular refractive surgery. The biggest difference between myopia and hyperopia is the prognosis of the disease, because myopia appears in children and gets bigger as they get older, while hyperopia gets smaller as they get older.
