Double eyelids, to cut or not to cut?

Double eyelid surgery (i.e. blepharoplasty) is one of the most popular and most performed cosmetic surgery procedures among the Asian population. However, in our clinics, we find that many people have a lot of misconceptions and doubts about eyelid surgery.
Some people come to the consultation room and say to the doctor as soon as they sit down, I want to cut and eyelids; many people take photos of a certain celebrity, or even a foreign celebrity, and say: doctor, I want to cut such eyes; there are also often patients who cry within a few days of folding: why is not the effect they want, is the surgery failed? Doctor, redo it right away!
  Your face determines your eyes!
As we all know: eyes are the most eye-catching and beautiful part of the five senses, and beautiful and godly eyes are the pursuit and dream of every beauty lover. Double eyelids can indeed obtain better cosmetic results and meet the spiritual needs of beauty lovers.
So is it necessary to do double eyelid if you want to do it?
Generally speaking, people with short round eyes, protruding eyeballs, wide eye fissures (the part of the eye exposed between the upper and lower eyelids) or small eyes are not suitable for this surgery. Because the double eyelid surgery has the effect of widening the eye fissure, it may become the so-called “frightened eye” after the surgery, which will not increase the beauty, but will have the opposite effect.
In addition, people with strabismus, dry eyes, inflammation of the eyelids, rashes or recent trauma are also not suitable for this surgery, but should first deal with these conditions before considering plastic surgery.
What shape of eyelids should be made? Does what is right for someone else necessarily mean that it is right for you? In fact, it’s like a dress that looks good on someone else, but not necessarily on your own body.
As for the shape of the eyelids, it depends on the shape of the face, the width of the upper eyelids, the depth of the eye sockets, the distance between the eyes and other factors. In regular medical units, the doctor will carefully communicate with the candidate during the consultation and before the surgery, and then design the most suitable eye shape according to his or her requirements and the results he or she wants to achieve, combined with aesthetic knowledge and other factors.
We recommend that the eyelids should not be too wide and the fat should not be removed too much, otherwise the post-operative effect will often be unnatural or the eyes will look old and lifeless.
Should I go under the knife?
The operation method of double eyelid, in essence, there are no more than two kinds: First, the ligation method without cutting the skin or cutting little skin, such as the buried line method, suture method (the so-called Korean three-dot method, European style and other types of advertising belong to this category). Second, the incision method of cutting the skin. Then many people will ask, in the end, which one is better? Let’s make a comparison.
  Ligation method
Method is simple, less traumatic, fast recovery, surgery is not ideal can be re-modified
It can be done blindly by the surgeon, so it may not be long before the eyelid disappears or becomes less visible. Cannot remove or only partially remove excess fat, not excess skin
Young, tight upper lid skin, thin eyelids, wide upper lids, minor canthus
  Incision method
This method is widely used, and the eyelid is strong and reliable for life. The surgeon’s artistry and skill can be fully utilized to create the best eye shape
More complex, slower recovery and more difficult to modify if the surgery is not ideal
For people with sagging upper lid skin, bulbous eyes, heavy inner canthus, inverted eyelashes, and secondary surgery
Therefore, there is no absolute difference between cutting and not cutting, but it depends on the specific situation: if the skin is lax due to age or swollen due to genetics or lifestyle habits, the only way to get a pair of natural, tight and youthful looking eyes is to remove the excess skin and fat by cutting; as for the scar problem, it is not yet possible to do it without scars as advertised, but there is no need to worry too much about it. However, there is no need to worry too much, because the sutures in plastic surgery are quite delicate and the traces themselves are not obvious, plus the surgical incision is hidden in the fold of the eyelid, so the effect is almost invisible after surgery.
  Hot compresses, be patient!
There are no complications with double eyelid surgery, and the gauze covering the eyes can be removed one day after surgery. The swelling and bruising will be more obvious two or three days after surgery, but will gradually subside with the help of hot compresses and so on. Normally, the stitches are removed 7 days after surgery. The recovery will be completely natural within two weeks for those with good recovery, and longer for those with less good recovery, but usually not more than three months.
Don’t be too anxious if your eyes don’t look completely natural during the recovery period. We had a patient who called us a few days after the stitches were removed and complained that the surgery was not what she wanted, that it was a failure, and that she wanted a revision. We could only reassure her patiently and told her to keep the hot compresses on. In less than a week, she called again and said she was back to her natural self, saying she loved her eyes now and her sisters said they looked great, etc.
Lastly, we would like to remind you that the beauty market is confusing and many patients fail in private plastic surgery without any qualification or guarantee, such as having their eyelids done too wide, removing too much fat, etc. It is difficult to remedy and recover from situations like this. Therefore, beauty lovers should remember: go to a regular medical unit for medical treatment; find a qualified plastic surgeon to do it.
