Breast milk is the ideal natural food for babies, and the World Health Organization strongly advocates breastfeeding. However, improper feeding practices, short or sunken nipples, and overweight newborns make 11-96% of breastfeeding women experience varying degrees of breast pain, 26% of which can occur with cracked nipples, and cracked nipples can lead to nipple infection or mastitis if not treated in a timely or appropriate manner. There is no ideal solution for the treatment of cracked nipples. In China, there are reports of local application of estrogen, erythromycin ointment, comfrey oil, etc. to treat cracked nipples, and overseas reports of peppermint gel, lanolin ointment, etc. to treat cracked nipples with certain therapeutic effects, but these methods often require thorough cleaning of the breast before breastfeeding or even stopping breastfeeding to prevent adverse effects of drugs on the baby, repeated cleaning of the breast brings tedious inconvenience to breastfeeding, and stopping breastfeeding can easily lead to breast milk Repeated cleaning of the breasts is tedious and inconvenient for breastfeeding, and stopping breastfeeding may lead to milk accumulation, breast pain and discomfort, and reduce the breastfeeding rate and affect the health of mothers and babies. The VAD oil is not only non-toxic to infants, but vitamins A and D play an important role in the development of infants and young children, such as vision, bones, teeth and the promotion and maintenance of the integrity of epithelial tissue. VAD oil cream mainly contains vitamin A and vitamin D, which are essential for human growth and development. Vitamin A is a fat-soluble alcohol, which is not only necessary for visual maintenance, but also has been shown in numerous studies to play an important role in maintaining the health of the surface of tissues or organs. Recent studies have shown that vitamin A can induce the number of natural killer cells, improve their activity, increase the secretion of interleukin-2, and also regulate the immune function of skin cells by inducing the production of antibodies, thus promoting humoral immunity and enhancing the immune and repair function of the skin. Vitamin D may regulate skin immune function by inhibiting T-cell activity, regulating the type of cytokine secretion, regulating proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis, and affecting the maturation, differentiation and migration of antigen-presenting cells, among other mechanisms. This gives vitamin D an anti-inflammatory and even anti-cancer effect. Therefore, VAD oil emulsion has the function of maintaining the normal function of epithelial tissue, promoting the metabolism of skin tissue, improving local nutrition of skin and promoting the growth of granulation tissue. At the same time, VAD oil cream has a lubricating effect, which can effectively reduce the irritation of chapped nipples from breastfeeding, reduce the pain and promote breastfeeding. Based on the above pharmacological and lubricating effects of VAD oil cream, and during the treatment of cracked nipples with VAD oil cream application, we observed that VAD oil cream has strong adhesion, much skin absorption, high local concentration and long duration of action. Therefore, we achieved good results in the treatment of chapped nipples using VAD oil cream topical application, and VAD oil cream topical application for chapped nipples was superior to the expected treatment and significantly shortened the healing time of chapped nipples. We also observed that the average time for breast pain to disappear was significantly shorter in the VAD oil cream treatment group than in the control group, presumably related to the pharmacological therapeutic effect of VAD oil cream, but also to the fact that the treatment group did not need to stop breastfeeding, promoting mother-infant emotion, good maternal mood, and better breast emptying (compared with breast emptying by breast pump), effectively preventing complications such as milk stasis. In conclusion, topical application of VAD oil cream on chapped nipples shortens the healing time of chapped nipples, reduces the patient’s discomfort while breastfeeding, improves the breastfeeding rate, and also prevents complications such as milk stasis and mastitis. And VAD oil cream is easy to use, economical and suitable, worthy of clinical promotion.
