Can myopia be cured?

The prevalence of myopia is increasing in China, with a trend of year-on-year growth, especially among young children, mainly related to unhealthy personal eye habits. The main ocular change in myopia is the elongation of the eye axis, and there is no way to reverse the elongation of the eye axis, so there is no complete cure for myopia. However, there are many ways to correct the refractive problems associated with myopia, such as frame glasses, keratoplasty, laser refractive surgery, and IOL implantation, etc. The choice of treatment method should take into account age, myopia, and eye condition. Wearing frame glasses is a treatment option for any age. If myopia is still progressing and the degree is less than 400 degrees, you can consider using keratomileusis, which can control the progression of myopia, and laser refractive surgery after the age of 18 when the refractive status is stable. Laser keratomileusis treatment is generally safe and there are many surgical options available, consult your refractive surgeon for specific modalities and costs. For high myopia, you can consider IOL implantation, which is a lens implanted into the eye that provides better visual quality than frames and is generally safer.
