Infants are born for the first time and need to be breast/artificially fed for about 1 year. Improper feeding posture can induce abnormal jaw growth and development, often manifesting as a backbite/”geoduck”. Many mothers have asked me about their toddler’s “geoduck”, so here is the correct feeding posture for you (below). It is recommended that you do not use the “soccer” feeding position for a long period of time to feed your baby manually. If the infant is already showing “geodesic”, you can wait until all the milk teeth have grown and the infant can cooperate (generally 3-4 years old) for timely diagnosis and treatment. Because of the various causes of enameled teeth, children over the age of 3 should be seen and treated as soon as possible to avoid aggravation of the condition.
